Do you ever wonder how your pricing measures up to other upholsterers? Would you like to know how pricing in Wichita differs from pricing in San Diego? Are you thinking of offering a new service and curious about the going rate?
In this survey, we’ll ask you where you're from and what you charge for various services. We’ll also share some pictures of furniture and ask you to tell us what you’d charge to reupholster each piece. The survey should only take about 10 minutes to complete, and you can add or edit your responses as often as you like until the survey closes. This survey is open to US-based upholsterers only.
The more responses we get, the better the data! All professional upholsterers are invited to respond. Survey participants will receive a copy of the results once they are available.
Pricing is one of the most popular topics discussed at the NUA. Help us keep a pulse on industry pricing by volunteering a few minutes of your time to this very important cause.
Join us on Tuesday, November 23rd at 1:00pm EST to discuss the pricing survey results at our monthly Community Meeting.

It's Official! The NUA is an Approved 501(c)(6) Organization
What is a 501(c)(6) organization?
First, let’s start by defining what organizations fit into this category. They are business associations, trade associations, chamber of commerces, and oddly, professional football leagues. For the NUA, we represent the upholstery industry. We have certified that we’re a non-profit organization.
What does this 501 designation mean to you?
As a member of the NUA, you can be proud that you’re part of the only organization that nationally represents the trade of upholstery. With an official 501(c)(6) designation, it means all the membership dues and donations go towards our mission, not towards income taxes. Lastly, membership dues may be deductible as a business expense.(Note: Not a charitable contribution; consult your accountant for tax advice.)
It's back! This annual, month-long social media campaign, created by Bruno Lopez and friends, exists to recognize, celebrate, and share the skilled craft of upholstery! It's a global event with participation open to all. All you need to do is choose your favorite reupholstery examples (with permission, of course, if they are not yours), post them on social media and use the hashtags #upholsteryawarenessmonthNUA and #nationalupholsteryassociation so everyone can follow along.
The National Upholstery Association Instagram account will be sharing hashtagged posts to amplify the breadth of skill and craft within our industry. Be sure to follow along!

We have several short- and long-term volunteer opportunities if you are interested in joining our team. If you have talents not included in our list of Current Opportunities, drop us a line! We'd love to work with you!

Robbie Richardson Gives Us a Peek Beneath the Covers of Stuff Stitch Magazine on the Eve of Its October Debut
By Monica Rhodes, NUA Volunteer and Owner of Monday Wash Furniture
UK-based Master upholsterer, Robbie Richardson reaches out to trades people and lay people alike through his popular podcast In Stitches and will soon expand that reach with the launch of Stuff Stitch Magazine, the first comprehensive upholstery trade magazine to exist in almost two decades. For Richardson, “telling the story of what lies beneath the covers” is not just a clever tagline, it’s a mission. “It’s about the detail under the covers (of a piece of furniture). It’s also about the story we never tell because there is no outlet to tell the story of upholstery.”
The NUA was founded in 2019 to inspire a rebirth of the upholstery profession. Our mission is to work together to support and advance the field of professional upholstery. Membership benefits include Continuing Education, Networking, Member's Only Resources, and more.
